National Child Measurement Programme results - MEND responds
Paul Sacher, Childhood obesity expert at MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it), said: “The number of obese and overweight children in the UK revealed today is indicative of a government that has failed to take childhood obesity seriously. The government must take immediate action, not only to protect the health of our nation’s children, but also to avoid the £50 billion cost to the NHS by 2050 (Foresight Report, 2005). Its blinkered view on child obesity cannot continue.

- Department of Health confirms MEND’s appointment on the Cross-Government Obesity Unit Providers Framework -
MEND is delighted to be officially named in the Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives Child Weight Management Programme and Training Providers Framework list of ‘pre-qualified’ providers which has been developed by the Cross-Government Obesity Unit through a national-level procurement process.
On the 31st March 2009, after a rigorous tendering process, MEND’s success was formally announced. As a result of the procurement MEND is now appointed to offer all three of its Programmes for children from the ages of 2 to 13 across all of the ten Strategic Health Authority regions in England.

Free child obesity programmes set to benefit thousands more families
As Alan Johnson unveils the Department of Health’s social marketing campaign, MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!) announces the significant expansion of its national network of free courses for overweight and obese children and their families. From the Autumn Term 2008, 4000 more families are set to learn weight management skills each term in over 300 community locations across the UK as part of the after-school MEND Programme.
