Building Powerful Communities
Building Powerful Communities is an innovative new partnership helping to reduce the high obesity levels in Tower Hamlets.
MEND, NHS East London and the City, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Bupa are working together in partnership to run Building Powerful Communities. The project aims to reach more than 10,000 children and adults in the borough and encourage them to adopt healthier eating habits and be more active in their daily lives.
Tower Hamlets has the second highest obesity rates in London
Through Building Powerful Communities children and adults living in Tower Hamlets will have access to a variety of free healthy eating and activity programmes in their local community. There will be something for everyone, including:
- A range of healthy lifestyle programmes for all ages
- Resources for schools and teachers
- Support for adults in leisure settings
- Training for community volunteers and healthcare professionals so they can promote healthy lifestyles
Creating a lasting difference
Bupa volunteers will assist on MEND’s healthy lifestyle programmes and the local Tower Hamlets community will help shape and deliver the activities to support a lasting difference.
